Being a devoted supporter of black owned businesses I am incredibly disappointed with the poor treatment I received at Evolve Beauty Supply today after attempting to exchange a defective Bobbi Boss product. Despite being a loyal customer since the store opened formerly as Crescent Beauty, I was denied an exchange simply because I didn’t have a receipt. I was told this was policy and that they don’t do refunds! I didn’t want a refund; all I asked for was a fair exchange for an unused product that was defective.

I have a few issues with this, the main one being I was sold a defective and non working product! Before purchasing the item… this as well as several other things throughout the store didn’t have prices on them! Initially they couldn’t tell me how much it was. The cashier attempted to check the price but had difficulty getting it to scan and had to manually input it into the system! I felt a way then but being as I hadn’t had any previous issues I proceeded with my purchase. The item is undamaged and used due to its defects. Therefore policy doesn’t apply and should not be enforced in this case or matter!

After explaining this to management and even the owner (who was called to assist), I was still told there was “nothing that could be done” and was dismissively told to “have a good day.” I was told again this was policy! However, policy says nothing about defective products! Feeling disappointed and unsatisfied, I asked for further instructions and how I could contact the owner(s) and was denied that as well!

As someone who has supported this black-owned business for years, it’s disheartening to see the decline in customer service since the change in ownership. I never expected to be treated this coldly and unfairly!

Crescent Beauty Supply used to feel like a place that valued its customers, but since they’re Evolve Beauty now unfortunately, that no longer seems to be the case. After this experience, I won’t be shopping here again. So much for evolution!

This is a BLACK owned business that I was searching for and I’m very pleased. This place has everything you need in hair care products to hair extensions. The owner was very helpful and courteous. I will definitely be buying from them from now on.😊

I love this place!! First and foremost, it is indeed BLACK OWNED!!! They have reasonable prices and always have GREAT customer service! This was shopping trip for the day lol. I'm gonna put some locks in my boyfriend's hair! 🤤🥰

I love that this beauty supply is foundational black American owned. They were very helpful and prices was better than other beauty supplies. I will never talk bad about a FBA business considering we need a lot more. Customer service was on point. Conversation was nice. Products was good. What else can you ask for. Will tell family and friends.

I have been a supporter of this beauty supply since they first opened. I am a diehard supporter of black owned businesses in general. I’m not even a beauty supply girl but this one,I’ll support for things I need right away. My son is a barber and my daughter does locs…Both are young and have utilized this beauty supply for their business needs.Again I am a diehard supporter of Black business. I will travel out of my way to support.As a rule when I have an experience that is upsetting with a Black owned business I’ll talk to them but would never bad mouth the business no matter how bad my experience was…family business I guess. I’m the person that advocates for folks to “just give them another chance”.Anyhoo, my last experience at Evolve was more hurtful than anything and I’m only sharing as a reminder that we have to do better by each other.

On 6/4 I made a purchase of around $50. Again,I don’t really shop at the beauty supply so I’m often overwhelmed. However, my package didn’t come so I needed to grab what I needed and head to my stylist. My stylist told me he’d use what he had because I grabbed the wrong item. I went back to Evolve knowing I would probably have to exchange because most beauty supply stores don’t do returns. When I returned and asked what my options were the first employee called someone to help me as it was her first day. The next woman came and told me I just needed to choose something around the same amount and we could do an exchange. I asked what I could get, just to make sure they’re weren’t things that were off limits for exchange. She assured me anything up to that amount was fine. I chose my things and returned to check out. They had a new system so there was a bit of a wait to figure out how to do the exchange with the new system. She calls up the owner telling her it looks like she mistakenly refunded me. The owner checks and shows me a zeroed out receipt saying I’ve been refunded. And now I need to “make a purchase of around $50 because they don’t do returns”. At this point I’m confused because I can’t be sure I’ve been refunded and I’m being asked to make another purchase. The owner proceeds to tell me she was being “honest” by telling me she refunded me and really could have just went ahead and rung up the exchange items,and that I should be honest and make a purchase. I was offended and told her so. I was being accused of being dishonest for a mistake I didn’t even make. I was extremely uncomfortable. The owner and I spoke privately after the very uncomfortable loud accusation in front of other customers. I ended up leaving without making a second purchase but I also never received a refund. If I would have made another purchase I would have been out of $100.Make it make sense?!?!
